Trauma
Trauma can have a lasting impact on you, even years after the event. You may feel overwhelmed or disconnected from yourself or your surroundings. Maybe you feel stuck in unhealthy patterns, or your relationships are struggling. You may find yourself self-isolating, having difficulty trusting others, people-pleasing, experiencing emotional numbness, or struggling to regulate your emotions.
Sometimes, you may not fully understand why you feel or react the way you do. You may find yourself overthinking, feeling on edge, avoiding certain situations, or having strong emotional reactions. You may also notice that certain situations, relationships, or experiences bring up feelings connected to what happened in the past.
Trauma can affect the way you see yourself, your relationships with others, and how you respond to everyday situations. You may feel like you should be able to move forward, but something keeps holding you back. Even when you know an experience happened in the past, it can still feel very present in your thoughts, emotions, or body.
You may have developed coping strategies that helped you get through difficult experiences. These patterns may have been helpful at one point, but you may now find they make it harder to feel connected, confident, or at peace. Therapy can provide a safe space to better understand these patterns and begin working through the experiences that may be contributing to them.
Healing does not mean forgetting what happened. It can mean developing a better understanding of yourself, processing difficult experiences, and learning new ways of responding to your thoughts, emotions, and relationships.
Modalities for Trauma
Trauma therapy at Mindful Therapeutic Services is individualized. Depending on your goals and what feels appropriate for you, I help clients process distressing memories using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Brainspotting, Parts and Memory Therapy, and mindfulness-based practices to support healing.
My approach is collaborative and focused on what you need. We will work together to determine what feels comfortable and appropriate rather than using the same approach with every client. Therapy may involve processing difficult memories, understanding patterns, developing healthier coping skills, and becoming more connected to yourself.
You do not have to have everything figured out before starting therapy. You can begin with where you are and work at a pace that feels manageable for you. My goal is to provide a supportive space where you can better understand your experiences and work toward meaningful change.
